The Ultimate List of Netflix Shows In Other Languages

November 28, 2017 By Sophie Austin 13 Comments

Did you know that most shows Netflix creates in-house come pre-loaded with audio in other languages?

Me neither. Not to mention a whole bunch of other shows. Until I went exploring one day and discovered a whole wealth of language gold hidden right there, in my Netflix account.

So then I started to click around. I wonder if this is in French? What about this? What about this?

Watching movies in your target language is a great way to supplement your language learning. It helps you master the first stage of learning a language by ear: your capacity to hear and understand the sounds being made.

Plus, you don’t have to feel guilty about spending time on the couch watching TV!

But they speak too quickly… I can’t make out all the words… I don’t know what’s going on.

Do any of those sound familiar?

Often, in movies, characters will speak quickly, speak in accents, or drop some of the sounds altogether. This is often why some people struggle to understand movies in foreign languages. But this is how natives really sound.

When you learn a language by eye (i.e. you start with learning reading, writing, and grammar) you struggle to put language into practice, both auditorily and verbally.

So here’s where Netflix comes in. The more you listen to a language, the more you’ll be able to differentiate its sounds. This will help you differentiate words and then whole sentences. It’s a cheap way of immersing yourself in a language without ever having to leave the comfort of your own home.

Here is our ultimate list of every Netflix show in your target language.

Sit back, relax, and let the shows begin!

I guess this list is only for Americans. I was interested in ’13 reasons why’, but it’s not available with German voiceover in the UK 🙁

Don’t worry disrespect the work you put into it, but Netflix has this option to filter everything by language even with audio and subtitles.

What would be way more interesting are series and movies on netflix with the ORIGINAL audio of a specific language. I don’t wanna watch “Supernatural” with Spanish audio. What is way better and truly authentic are series and movies produced in the target language.

I’ve been looking for a list like that, but nobody has put in the work for that yet. Netflix hasn’t come up with the idea neither.

I recommend La Niña, a Netflix series, for Spanish learners. It’s good.

Netflix has so many Japanese and Korean shows these days, surprised they’re not listed.

I think they only listen Netflix produced shows… and except one Korean show, I haven’t seen a Netflix produced Korean show

For Spanish the list is missing several original Spanish tv shows such as Velvet, Las Chicas del Cable, Club de Cuervos, and El Internado. In addition most of the animated Netflix original kids shows are dubbed in Spanish.

Should you be listening with subtitles? If so should they be in the target language or native language?

It depends on your level. If you’re a beginner, you should probably stick to your native language subtitles so you can at least hear more of the target language. Intermediate learners should try with the target language subtitles, and advanced learner s should forgo subtitles all together. Or, you could challenge yourself at any level and try for the level above you!
